Youth leaders in Uganda’s Lango Subregion are strongly asking the people organizing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s upcoming thanksgiving ceremony to make sure young people are not left out. They want a real chance to meet and talk directly with the President during his visit.
This important appeal comes from Daniel Moro, the chairperson of the Lira District Youth League. He shared in an interview that the youth are fully ready and excited to welcome the President to the thanksgiving ceremony, which is planned for April 18 at Lango College.
Moro explained that young leaders have prepared a special document called a memorandum. This document clearly highlights the biggest problems and challenges facing young people in the area. Their main goal is to personally give this message to the President.
However, Moro also shared a serious concern. He pointed out that youth leaders have repeatedly been shut out from meeting the President during his previous visits. He remembered a past event at Lango College where young representatives were not allowed to see the President, which left them very disappointed.
The youth leaders believe they earned the right to be heard. Moro emphasized that they played a crucial role in rallying support that helped President Museveni win in the Lango region in past elections. Because of this, they feel they should absolutely be given an opportunity to directly share their concerns and ideas.
Moro strongly urged the organizers of the thanksgiving ceremony to make sure everyone is included, especially youth voices. He believes it’s vital for young people to be represented and heard during such a significant event.
Meanwhile, police in the North Kyoga Region have confirmed that security teams are fully prepared to keep everyone safe during the ceremony, which is expected to attract many people. President Museveni is scheduled to attend the thanksgiving ceremony in Lira this Saturday.
