Transforming Lives in Kwania: Field of Hope Launches Major Shs48 Million Initiative to Empower Women, Educate Youth, Boost Food Security, and Ensure Clean Water Access

A new Shs48 million program has been launched in Kwania District, Uganda, promising a brighter future for over 300 women, countless students, and farming families. Spearheaded by Field of Hope, a Christian non-profit organization, this initiative aims to build stronger, more resilient communities.

Spanning three years, the program will focus on Ayabi Town Council and Abongomola Sub-county. Its core mission is to improve food security, help communities adapt to climate change, and advance agricultural education.

Walter Okullu, Field of Hope’s Country Director, explained that the organization is dedicated to empowering local communities. This will be achieved through hands-on agricultural training, teaching financial skills, and specific programs for young people. A key part of this involves training over 300 women in Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) to boost their household finances and overall economic strength.

Additionally, the program will construct two new boreholes, ensuring improved access to clean and safe drinking water for residents. Students and teachers in local secondary schools, including Abongomola Seed, Inomo, and Aduku, will also benefit. The program will promote modern agricultural education and smart farming techniques that are friendly to the environment.

While Field of Hope began in the United States in 2010, it established its operations in Uganda in 2024, quickly expanding its impactful work across the Lango sub-region.

Local authorities fully support the initiative. Robert Okwanga Alem, Kwania’s Deputy Chief Administrative Officer and head of the District NGO Monitoring Committee, confirmed that Field of Hope met all necessary legal requirements. He assured that district leaders would closely monitor the program’s progress and its positive effects on the community.
