A new era of advanced medical care for children and newborns has begun in Uganda’s Lango Sub-region. Lira Regional Referral Hospital recently unveiled state-of-the-art facilities: a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a modern paediatric surgical unit. This significant development promises to bring specialized healthcare closer to home for countless families.
These cutting-edge facilities, representing a crucial Shs2 billion investment, are designed to eliminate the need for critically ill babies and children to be sent to far-off hospitals. Instead, expert care for premature infants, newborns with serious conditions, and children needing specialized surgery is now readily available within the region. Local leaders emphasized that this move will truly transform child healthcare, ensuring families no longer face the burden and risks of traveling long distances for life-saving treatment. The government and its partners were praised for their vital contribution to improving maternal and child health.
