This prestigious event, held in Lira City at Lango College, brought together the brightest young minds from across the Lango sub-region to solve the most pressing challenges of our time. By developing a sophisticated robot specifically engineered to identify Ebola symptoms, these students have proven that the next generation of Ugandans is ready to lead the world in medical technology and disease prevention.
The competition was a high-stakes arena organized by the Secondary Science and Mathematics Teachers programme in collaboration with the Regional Management Committee. Dr. Obote College faced intense competition from ten other government secondary schools, each bringing their own unique scientific projects to the table. While schools like St. Katherine, Comboni College, and Lira Secondary School showcased impressive innovations in chemistry and robotics, it was the practical, life-saving potential of the Ebola detection robot that captured the hearts and minds of the judges. This invention earned the school the top trophy and a certificate of excellence, marking a historic moment for the institution.

Judge Betty Auma, a respected educator from Comboni College, praised the students for their incredible creativity. However, she also offered a powerful reminder that true innovation requires more than just a good idea. She noted that for these young scientists to reach their full potential, they must overcome challenges like stage fright and language barriers while mastering the deep scientific theories behind their work. RMC Vice-chairperson Alfred Oparo challenged the participants to ensure their inventions do not gather dust on a shelf.
