Police in Wakiso District have opened a serious investigation after a gun believed to belong to private security guards was discovered abandoned near a welding and brickmaking company that had been robbed the previous night.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the firearm was recovered in Nkowe Village, Kaliti Parish in Mende Subcounty. The guards involved had been deployed by Fountain Security to provide protection at Kham Resort, located in the same area.
Early findings show that on November 17, unknown individuals broke into the welding company and made off with several pieces of equipment, including welding machines, grinders and electrical cables. Later that night, a police patrol intercepted two men carrying three welding machines, two grinders and wires believed to be part of the stolen items. The suspects abandoned the equipment and fled into the darkness.
Investigators now believe the security guards on duty may have played a role in the robbery. It is suspected that after the theft, they quietly left behind their rifle and uniforms in their accommodation before disappearing.
Police have now secured both the gun and the recovered machinery as key evidence. A formal case of theft has been registered, and officers have intensified their search to track down all individuals linked to the incident.
The hunt for the suspects is ongoing as police work to uncover the full details behind what appears to be a planned inside job.
