In a powerful demonstration of community pride and investment in the next generation, Otuke District has officially sent off a formidable team of forty five young athletes to compete in the prestigious National Kids Athletics Championship in Tororo. This departure, which took place on May 4, 2025, represents more than just a sports trip; it is a significant milestone for a district that is rapidly becoming a powerhouse for talent development and inclusive youth empowerment.
The delegation is a diverse and talented group comprising twenty four athletes in the Under 12 category and twenty one in the Under 14 category. Notably, the team includes both able-bodied students and learners with special needs, making it the largest and most inclusive representation from the Lango sub-region. This achievement highlights Otuke’s deep-seated commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of their physical ability, has a chance to shine on a national stage.
Guiding these young stars are dedicated teachers and experienced coaches who have been entrusted with the athletes’ well-being, discipline, and competitive spirit. James Obira, the District Sports Officer, expressed immense pride in the team, noting that the unwavering support from district leadership has paved the way for success. He shared his firm belief that the group is not just going to participate, but is poised to return home with trophies and hard-earned glory.
The success of this initiative is rooted in strong administrative leadership. Acheng Lucky, the District Education Officer, extended her gratitude to the Chief Administrative Officer, Lomongin Joseph, for his strategic resource management which ensured the team was well-equipped for the journey. Safety and health remain top priorities, with all necessary arrangements firmly in place to protect the young learners throughout the competition.
Lomongin Joseph commended the Education Department for their tireless work and reminded the officials to maintain constant vigilance over the children’s welfare. He emphasized that thorough preparation is the key to high-level performance and urged coaches to prioritize the health of the participants, ensuring any emergencies are handled with the utmost urgency.
Echoing this sentiment, Resident District Commissioner Erick Masiga spoke of the athletes as the leaders of tomorrow. He pointed out that athletics is no longer just a hobby but a viable career path that can open doors to global opportunities far beyond traditional professions. By supporting these children today, Otuke is building a foundation for a brighter, more prosperous future.
As these young trailblazers head to Tororo, they carry with them the hopes of an entire district. The National Kids Athletics Championship serves as a vital platform for these children to showcase their skills, gain invaluable exposure, and prove that with the right support, the sky is the limit for the youth of Otuke.
