Lira City East Division is poised for a youth-focused transformation if aspiring Councillor, Ongom Castro, is elected in 2026. Castro’s manifesto centers on social protection and inclusion, promising a robust approach to youth welfare.
“My primary focus,” Castro stated, “will be on supporting vulnerable youth,” committing to advocacy, volunteering, and charity alongside the Councillor Representative for PWDs. He plans visits to Ngetta Babies Home, prisons, and hospitals, aiming to instill hope and combat the stigma often faced by vulnerable youth.
Castro also highlighted the urgent need to protect youth from exploitation and violence. Citing statistics revealing that approximately 95% of young people in the private sector face challenges like delayed payments, harassment, and unfair working conditions, Castro emphasized, “We must address this injustice.” He pledged to advocate for stricter workplace supervision and ensure appointment letters are issued, promoting job security. He intends to leverage existing resources like the Labour Office and partner with Civil Society Organizations to create a safe and equitable environment for all youth in Lira City East.
