Fifty individuals with disabilities in Kwania District are now experiencing renewed hope and independence thanks to a generous donation of all-terrain manual wheelchairs. These new wheelchairs are set to dramatically improve daily life, allowing recipients to move more freely and access crucial services and community life that were previously out of reach.
The powerful all-terrain wheelchairs, valued at approximately Sh103 million, were provided through the kindness of the OJ Care Mobility Foundation, with significant financial backing from the Chair the Love Organization, a charitable group based in Florida, USA. The handover ceremony, a joyous occasion for beneficiaries, marked a significant step forward for the district’s most vulnerable residents.
Julius Opoii, Executive Director of OJ Care Mobility Foundation, emphasized the transformative potential of these wheelchairs. He encouraged recipients to make the most of their new mobility, explaining that it would open doors to healthcare, education, vital government services, and more active participation in their communities. He also shared encouraging news that funding has been secured for a total of 260 such wheelchairs for residents in Kwania and Apac districts, promising an even wider impact.
Local leaders expressed profound gratitude for the donation. Moses Opio, Kwania District Senior Development Officer, highlighted that the district’s budget for programs supporting persons with disabilities is limited, making such external support absolutely essential. He praised the donor organizations for supplementing government efforts and recognized local Members of Parliament for their instrumental role in securing this valuable contribution.
Deputy Speaker Jacob Edule, representing the district chairperson, reaffirmed the local government’s ongoing commitment to supporting persons with disabilities. He urged beneficiaries to confidently use their new wheelchairs to access government offices and various public services with newfound ease. Assistant Resident District Commissioner Ceasor Obada further encouraged all leaders to continue advocating for initiatives that benefit every resident, fostering development across the board.
