KAMPALA, UGANDA – Presidential hopeful James Nathan Nandala Mafabi, during a media briefing, outlined his plan to tackle poverty, emphasizing his “Money in the Pocket” initiative. The announcement came as part of an update on his first ten days of campaigning, where he witnessed firsthand the struggles of impoverished communities.
Mafabi expressed concern over the widespread poverty in villages and districts, highlighting the exploitation of young Ugandans through predatory high-interest loans, often used to finance bodaboda motorcycles.
A key element of Mafabi’s strategy involves transforming the bodaboda sector. He pledged that, if elected, bodaboda riders would gain access to new motorcycles for a significantly reduced price of UGX 2 million. The remaining UGX 3 million would be covered by the government, with riders repaying the initial amount over four years. This aims to free up funds for drivers to meet their families’ needs.
Mafabi’s plan intends to provide a real financial boost to the bodaboda sector, making it easier for people to earn and spend money. “Money in the Pocket” intends to alleviate financial strain in these vital sectors.
