Lira City recently came alive with a special charity run that brought the community together. Despite being organized quickly, a large number of people turned out to celebrate General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 52nd birthday.
This event was more than just a birthday celebration; it was a powerful display of community spirit, promoting healthy living, and most importantly, raising much-needed funds for vulnerable children, orphans, and babies’ homes in the area.
The run, which started and finished at the Lira City Mayor’s Garden, attracted a diverse crowd including local residents, community leaders, youth groups, and women mobilizers. Their enthusiastic participation highlighted the strong community bond and willingness to support a noble cause.
Lawrence Egole, the Lira City Resident City Commissioner, praised the impressive turnout. He noted that such strong interest, even with limited preparation time, truly shows the community’s commitment. He gave special thanks to the women mobilizers for their crucial role in getting so many people involved.
Egole also spoke highly of General Muhoozi, describing him as a patriotic leader who enjoys significant support in the Lango region. He commended the General’s efforts in strengthening Uganda’s military, fighting corruption, and ensuring peace and stability across the country and the wider region. Egole emphasized that the charity run itself served as a powerful symbol of unity and community spirit.
Funds were collected through the purchase of special running kits. Among the notable contributions was a generous donation of kits from Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng, who also leads the Patriotic League of Uganda in the Lango Subregion. Additional t-shirts were kindly provided by Rebecca Otengo, Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti, and other supportive partners, all contributing to the fundraising success.
Lira City Mayor Sam Atul kept the energy high throughout the event, leading cheerful chants of “We are the MK” and rallying everyone to enjoy the special occasion. The total amount raised is still being tallied, but the overwhelming support from the community promises a significant impact for those in need.
