In a powerful move to bring back mobility and independence, twenty individuals from Uganda’s Lango region who had lost limbs recently received new prosthetic limbs. This inspiring effort was a joint initiative between the Suman Foundation and the Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
The hospital’s skilled orthopaedic team carefully fitted and adjusted these specialized limbs. A ceremony was held to officially hand them over to the recipients, marking a significant moment in their journey.
Hospital officials explained that the recipients faced limb loss due to various reasons, including serious road accidents, workplace injuries, and medical conditions like diabetes or severe infections.
During the handover event, Venkatesh Manepali, the Suman Foundation manager, praised the Lira Regional Referral Hospital for their strong partnership. He emphasized, “We are truly thankful for this collaboration. Together, we’ve reached people whose lives will be profoundly changed by receiving prosthetic care. Our mission is to give back hope, the ability to move freely, and new opportunities to those living with disabilities.”
Emmanuel Ogwang, the hospital administrator, expressed gratitude to the Suman Foundation for their crucial support in improving the well-being of vulnerable residents. He stated that Lira Regional Referral Hospital is dedicated to partnering with charitable organizations and others to offer high-quality healthcare. “We deeply appreciate the Suman Foundation for choosing to uplift our patients and communities through this truly life-changing gift,” Ogwang added.
Many of the recipients shared their heartfelt thanks, explaining that these new limbs will dramatically improve their ability to move, rebuild their confidence, and empower them to live fuller, more active lives once again.
