In a decisive blow against corruption and the betrayal of public trust, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Alebtong, Mathias Lutwama, has ordered the immediate arrest of the NRM Chairperson for Aloi Town Council. The suspect, Sam Otiti, is currently under police investigation following the disappearance of 14.2 million shillings that was specifically earmarked to support local candidates and party flag bearers in the upcoming elections.
This scandal came to light after brave local leaders from Aloi Town Council voiced their frustrations on the night of July 21, 2026. They reported a shocking discrepancy in their funding, claiming that they had received only half of the financial support they were promised. Instead of being empowered for their political campaigns, these grassroots champions found themselves shortchanged by the very person entrusted with managing their resources.
In an attempt to resolve the crisis through accountability, Deputy RDC Lutwama convened a public meeting where Otiti initially admitted to the discrepancies and pledged to return the missing funds to their rightful owners. However, his promise proved to be a hollow deception. Shortly after the meeting ended, Otiti reportedly switched off his mobile phone and went into hiding, hoping to escape the consequences of his actions and the eyes of the law.
This attempt to flee from justice was short-lived. Following President Yoweri Museveni’s clear and firm directive to purge corruption and the misuse of resources from every level of government, security forces tracked down and apprehended the suspect. He was promptly handed over to the Aloi Police Station, where investigators are now meticulously examining the case filed under reference SD 13/22/07/2026.
