Urgent Plea from Otuke: Thousands of Families Face Hunger After Drought Destroys Crops, Government Help Needed Now

The local government in Otuke has sent an urgent message to the country’s top leadership, asking for immediate help. A long period of dry weather, a drought, completely ruined their crops during the crucial first planting season in May. This means thousands of farmers have no food harvest and no way to earn a living. Unless help arrives quickly, many people will go hungry.
Every single family in all eight sub-counties and six town councils of Otuke District has been affected. They are asking the government to send emergency food supplies right away. They also desperately need seeds for maize and beans so farmers can try to plant again in the upcoming second season.
The drought destroyed vital crops like cassava, maize, beans, groundnuts, coffee, and rice – everything people rely on for food and income. Some areas, like Ogwette, have been hit particularly hard, with over 6,000 families affected there alone.
This isn’t an isolated problem. Just recently, a neighboring district, Dokolo, raised similar alarms about drought and poor harvests. It’s a clear sign that many farming communities are struggling and need support to overcome these harsh weather challenges.
