Uganda is taking a decisive step toward a sustainable future as the government officially prepares to adopt Spiro electric motorcycles within its various ministries and agencies. This major policy endorsement was highlighted during a high level inspection of the Spiro production facility at Namanve Industrial Park, led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Monica Musenero. The visit served as a formal assessment of the company’s investment impact, which aligns perfectly with the national strategy to modernize public transport and reduce the country’s carbon footprint by the year 2030.
During the tour, the Prime Minister emphasized that the adoption of these electric mobility solutions is a direct response to a presidential directive aimed at supporting home grown innovation and cleaner energy. By integrating these high tech bikes into government operations, the state is not only leading by example in environmental conservation but also bolstering the local manufacturing sector. This initiative is a core component of the National E-Mobility Strategy, which focuses on developing essential charging infrastructure and creating a specialized technical workforce capable of maintaining a new generation of vehicles.
The economic impact of this partnership is already evident, with over four thousand young Ugandans currently employed and trained within the Spiro ecosystem. These workers have gained valuable skills in the assembly and repair of electric motorcycles, positioning Uganda as a significant hub for green technology in Africa. Prime Minister Nabbanja praised the company for delivering on its industrial commitments in record time, noting that such investments are vital for job creation and long term national development. As the government begins the rollout of these electric solutions, the move is expected to significantly reduce operational costs while fostering a more resilient and eco friendly transport network across the country.
