Uganda’s top anti-corruption body, the Inspectorate of Government, has arrested Ms. Atim Mega, a Senior Agricultural Engineer working for Apac District. She stands accused of using false documents to secure her government position.
Ms. Atim Mega was questioned at the Inspectorate’s office in Lira and is now expected to face charges in court in Apac District in May 2026.
Investigations reveal that Ms. Atim was appointed to her current role in May 2024. However, a key piece of evidence she submitted – an appointment letter dated February 3, 2020, allegedly from Itek-Okille Farmers’ Cooperative Society – has been identified as a forgery. The leadership of the cooperative society has confirmed that they never employed Ms. Atim and that the letter is fake. This alleged fake document played a crucial role in her getting the government job.
This arrest sends a clear message about the Inspectorate of Government’s determined efforts to stop people from fraudulently obtaining public jobs and using fake academic or professional papers in local governments across the country. Using forged documents to get a job is a serious crime with significant legal consequences.
