Felix Okot Ogong Declares He Is Not Seeking Lango Paramount Chief Position Right Now, Prioritizing Unity, Development, and Stronger Representation for the Region

Lira, Uganda – Felix Okot Ogong, a prominent former Member of Parliament for Dokolo South and a respected clan leader, has firmly stated that he is not planning to become the next Paramount Chief of the Lango Cultural Foundation. He strongly dismissed recent claims that he is preparing for the role, calling them baseless rumors.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Ogong made it clear that he has no intention of competing for the top cultural leadership position previously held by the late Yosam Odur Ebii. He explained that his main focus at this time is to unite the people of Lango and drive social and economic growth in the region. He believes these efforts are far more critical than getting involved in the politics of who will succeed the late chief.

Mr. Ogong acknowledged that while the desire to serve as Paramount Chief might come up in the future, it is not part of his current goals. He highlighted that the Lango region still faces many challenges that require dedicated leadership and a united effort from everyone. He emphasized the need for leaders committed to launching new development projects, upholding Lango cultural values, and tirelessly advocating for the interests of the people.

He argued that all energy should first be directed towards improving the welfare of the population and boosting the region’s development. Discussions about who will lead the cultural institution, he suggested, should only come after these urgent needs are addressed.

Mr. Ogong also voiced his concern about the Lango region not having enough representation in recent government appointments. He pointed out that this situation clearly shows the ongoing need to campaign strongly to ensure Lango’s voice is heard and respected at the national level.

His comments come amidst ongoing speculation about who might take over the leadership of the Lango Cultural Foundation. However, Mr. Ogong’s clear statement definitively removes him from any immediate contest for the top cultural seat, as he remains steadfast in his commitment to unity and development.
