Dokolo North County is facing a severe lack of electricity, a problem that has now been brought to the attention of Parliament by its representative, Hon. Joseph Jones Ogwal. The Member of Parliament highlighted that a startlingly low number of homes and communities in Dokolo North, less than 30%, have received electricity through the national rural electrification program. This leaves the vast majority without power.
Mr. Ogwal expressed his concern, questioning why electricity expansion has been so slow in his constituency. He pointed out the irony that Dokolo North has shown strong support for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, yet remains largely in the dark. Residents, he stressed, are seeking clear answers on when more areas will finally get connected, as reliable electricity is crucial for local development and improving public services.
In response to these concerns, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja confirmed the government’s dedication to providing electricity to every parish during its current term. She immediately instructed the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to visit Dokolo North. The purpose of this visit is to thoroughly examine the existing power gaps in the area and identify the specific actions needed to address them.
The Prime Minister explained that this assessment would give the government a clear understanding of the challenges on the ground and help in developing effective strategies to boost power coverage. This directive comes amid increasing calls from communities across Dokolo North for greater investment in electricity infrastructure, which is vital for supporting households, local businesses, and essential public services.
