The top local leader in Dokolo District, Babra Akech, has ordered an urgent and complete re-check of everyone receiving money from the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM) program. This strong action comes after serious complaints from residents about fake beneficiaries, favoritism, and irregular sign-ups for the crucial development funds.
During a community meeting, residents voiced their frustrations, explaining that some people listed in the PDM savings groups (SACCOs) were not eligible. Examples included individuals reportedly living outside the district and others who had already benefited from the program, essentially taking money away from those who truly needed it. These unfair practices threaten to undermine the entire goal of the PDM, which is designed to lift local communities out of poverty.
In response to these alarming discoveries, Ms. Akech has not only demanded a thorough review of all beneficiaries but also instructed members to replace any leaders of these savings groups who are not performing well or are involved in dishonest dealings. She made it clear that honesty and transparency are absolutely vital for this important government program to succeed and help create wealth for everyone in the community.
The RDC also issued a stern warning against misusing national identity cards. She shared a concerning incident where a young man allegedly used someone else’s ID to get PDM money, giving only a tiny portion to the rightful owner. Her office quickly stepped in to make sure the legitimate beneficiary received their full share, sending a strong message that such cheating will not be tolerated.
Local leaders of the savings groups admitted that while initial checks were done, new problems quickly arose, making further investigations necessary. The call to action is clear: the community must stay watchful, report any suspicious activities, and work together to ensure that the PDM program genuinely serves the hardworking, honest people it was created for, rather than being exploited by fraudsters or those practicing favoritism.
