A senior government official recently shared a vital message with students: being an honest person is far more valuable than simply achieving high grades in school. Anne Twinomugisha, the Deputy Inspector General of Government, firmly stated that a person’s true worth is measured by their character and integrity, not by temporary academic scores.
Speaking at the launch of a new club, the Integrity Ambassador’s Club, at Kibuli Secondary School, Twinomugisha warned that impressive grades mean very little without strong moral values to back them up. She explained that integrity is a personal choice – it means always doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, and staying honest in all situations, big or small, resisting any temptation to cheat or take shortcuts.
She emphasized that building an ethical character brings a deep sense of inner peace and opens up incredible opportunities throughout life. It’s a long-term investment that promises greater rewards than any academic achievement alone.
Furthermore, this focus on honesty has the power to transform Uganda for the better. Twinomugisha believes that students who prioritize integrity will grow into ethical professionals, fair leaders, and public servants who cannot be corrupted. Imagine a country where public funds are used properly for essential services like schools, hospitals, and roads, rather than being lost to dishonesty. This, she argued, would lead to a stronger economy, less poverty, and a better reputation for Uganda globally.
She strongly encouraged students to join the Integrity Ambassador’s Club. This club aims to help young people develop lasting habits of honesty, offering guidance and a supportive network to help them become lifelong champions of integrity, actively contributing to a corruption-free Uganda. It’s an invitation for every student to be a part of this essential change.
