Amolatar Unites for Progress: Leaders Demand Urgent Action to Upgrade Roads, Improve Healthcare, and Ensure Fair Treatment for Struggling Fishermen, Pledging a Brighter Future for All

Following recent district elections, leaders in Amolatar are making a powerful appeal for unity and swift action to transform their community. They highlighted critical issues like neglected infrastructure, insufficient healthcare, and the serious challenges facing local fishermen, emphasizing that working together is the only way forward.

During a recent gathering, officials, including District Chairperson Morish Ogwal Omara and Kioga County Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ocen Kiring, painted a clear picture of the district’s struggles. MP Kiring specifically pointed out the long-delayed paving of crucial roads and the pressing need to elevate Amolatar Health Centre IV into a fully equipped General Hospital. These improvements are not just about convenience; they are about access to vital services and connecting communities.

Perhaps the most urgent concern raised was the plight of Amolatar’s fishing communities. New, tough fishing rules have drastically cut the number of boats allowed at each landing site, severely impacting livelihoods. MP Kiring passionately argued that the government must not abandon these families. He called for more time and financial aid to help them adapt to the changes. Crucially, he demanded a re-evaluation of the new fishing laws, stressing that they were put in place without proper discussion with the very people whose lives depend on fishing. The law must be made clear and fair, reflecting the needs of the fishermen themselves.

Despite the challenges, there’s a vision for economic growth. A proposed USD 1 million fish processing plant, backed by Lira University, holds immense potential to create jobs and boost the district’s economy. Leaders are now urging Parliament to approve the necessary funding for this transformative project.

Chairperson Ogwal Omara reinforced the commitment to working closely with all levels of government, from national leaders to local councils, to ensure these critical services are delivered. The message from Amolatar is clear: united, proactive leadership is essential to overcome current hurdles and build a vibrant, prosperous future for everyone in the district.
