The Government of Japan has generously donated seven advanced fire trucks to Uganda, significantly enhancing the emergency response capabilities of the Uganda Police Force. This crucial support is aimed at safeguarding lives and property in several growing districts across the country, with Lira being a prominent beneficiary.
The modern fire trucks were officially handed over during a ceremony in Kampala. Japan’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Takuya Sasayama, presented the vehicles to Uganda’s Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba. This donation is part of Japan’s ongoing commitment to improving human security at the grassroots level.
These new vehicles are specifically designated for districts including Lira, Tororo, Mpigi, Kiryandongo, Bundibugyo, Iganga, and Luwero. The addition of these trucks is expected to dramatically cut down response times during emergencies, providing a much-needed upgrade to firefighting and rescue services in these areas.
Inspector General Byakagaba expressed profound gratitude for the donation, acknowledging Japan as a consistent and reliable partner in Uganda’s journey towards greater safety and security. He emphasized that this support will strengthen their ability to protect communities and respond effectively to critical incidents.
This latest contribution builds on previous aid from Japan, which has consistently supported the Uganda Police Force with vital equipment and capacity-building initiatives. The fire trucks are especially valuable for upcountry districts like Lira, where the demand for modern emergency services continues to grow, and existing infrastructure often faces gaps. This partnership ensures that more communities will have access to rapid and effective emergency assistance, making Uganda a safer place for everyone.
