In a powerful display of student solidarity and trust, Lameck Ongora has been officially named the sixth Guild President of the Nsamizi Training Institute of Social Development. This landmark achievement for the 2026/2027 academic year comes as a testament to Ongora’s reputation, as he rose to the position completely unopposed.
The news was confirmed this past Sunday by the institution’s Electoral Commission. According to the Commission Chairperson, Ocana Morris, Ongora’s path to the presidency was cleared when no other candidates stepped forward to challenge him. While three other hopefuls—Ogwok George, Abonga Joseph, and Olipa Tonny—initially showed interest in the seat, they ultimately chose to step aside and throw their full support behind Ongora. Their decision reflects a growing consensus on campus that Ongora possesses the unique experience and integrity needed to guide the student body.
Ongora is far from a typical student leader. Currently pursuing a degree in Public Administration, he also brings a wealth of professional experience from his career in the media as the Programs Manager and an English news anchor for LBS Radio in Dokolo. His influence extends into the political sphere as well, where he serves as the Male Councillor-elect representing Persons with Disabilities in the Dokolo District Council. This dual background in media and local governance has clearly resonated with his peers, marking him as a leader who understands both the power of communication and the mechanics of public service.
Accepting his new role with grace, Ongora emphasized that this victory belongs to the entire community rather than himself. He described his election as a sacred mandate to serve with humility and transparency. He promised to be a bridge between the student body and the administration, ensuring that every individual concern is treated with the importance it deserves. His platform is built on the pillars of teamwork, better student welfare, and a commitment to maintaining an open dialogue with the institute’s management.
The president-elect also took a moment to honor those who came before him, praising the outgoing Guild leadership for their hard work and calling for a seamless transition of power. He is scheduled to officially take his oath of office on May 9, joined by his fellow incoming student representatives.
Located in Mpigi Town Council, the Nsamizi Training Institute of Social Development has been a cornerstone of Ugandan education since 1953. As a government-backed facility dedicated to producing experts in social and community development, the institute now prepares to enter its next chapter under the capable and unifying leadership of Lameck Ongora.
