A United Effort for a Brighter Uganda: Why Hard Work and Togetherness Will Build a Stronger Nation for Everyone This Labour Day 2026

As Uganda joined the world in celebrating Labour Day 2026, a senior Ugandan official, Sam Engola, delivered a powerful message calling for greater unity and dedication from all Ugandans. He urged everyone, from government workers to farmers, market traders, and even motorcycle riders, to embrace hard work and shared responsibility.

Engola stressed that real, lasting progress for families and the entire country can only happen if people work together. He explained that every single job, no matter how big or small, plays a crucial part in making Uganda’s economy stronger.

Labour Day is a special occasion celebrated globally to honor the contributions of workers to economic growth and societal well-being. It is a time to reflect on workers’ rights, fair pay, and safe working conditions.

This year’s global focus was on mental health in the workplace, aiming to reduce stress and prevent burnout to improve everyone’s well-being. In Uganda, the national celebrations centered on “Safeguarding Uganda’s Progress: Empowering the Workforce and Promoting Decent Work for Competitive Enterprises.” This theme reflects the government’s commitment to making businesses official, creating good job opportunities, and equipping Uganda’s youth with valuable skills. With over 73% of the population under 30 years old, creating jobs and developing skills for young people is more urgent than ever.

The message is clear: by working as one and committing to hard work, Ugandans can secure a prosperous future and build a truly competitive and thriving nation.
