The Lango region is buzzing with excitement as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni prepares for a landmark visit this Saturday, April 18, 2026. Set to take place at Lango College, the event will be a grand thanksgiving and celebration of the overwhelming support the President received from the area during the January 2026 general elections.
Local officials, including Lira City Resident City Commissioner Lawrence Egole, have explained that the President’s visit aims to personally thank the Lango people for their decisive votes. This moment is particularly significant because it marks the first time residents of Lango have shown such strong support for the President and his National Resistance Movement party. Mr. Egole described it as a time of true unity and appreciation, noting that support for the President came from across all political divides, including voters who traditionally supported the Uganda People’s Congress. This, he emphasized, signals a hopeful new political direction for the entire subregion.
The idea for this important visit originated from Ambassador Joseph Ocwet, Director of the External Security Organization, who is actively coordinating all preparations. Commissioner Egole has confirmed that all logistical and security arrangements for the event are now fully complete.
Ensuring public safety is a top priority, with police forces making extensive arrangements. North Kyoga Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema stated that designated parking areas for the public will be available at Adyel Boarding Primary School to ensure smooth traffic flow. Access to the main event venue will be controlled, reserved for invited guests. Police have conducted thorough assessments of the grounds and developed detailed operational plans, including the full use of surveillance systems like CCTV cameras, to guarantee a safe and successful celebration throughout the day.
