Pallisa Town Council has officially ushered in its new political leadership, which will serve the community from 2026 to 2031. During a significant ceremony, Mr. Omalla Richard, the new chairperson, and seventeen councillors took their oaths of office, committing to their roles. Senior officials oversaw the event, emphasizing the immense responsibility that comes with public service.
A key message from the ceremony was a powerful call for the newly elected leaders to prioritize the needs of the community above all else. Officials strongly advised the councillors to focus on delivering essential services rather than pursuing personal gains or hefty allowances. They highlighted a common concern: leaders often make promises about improving the community during campaigns but then shift their focus to personal benefits once in office. This new team was urged to break that cycle.
Mr. Omalla was specifically challenged to work closely with the town’s technical experts to ensure better service delivery. This collaboration is crucial as Pallisa has its sights set on achieving municipality status, a goal that demands dedicated and effective governance.
Further shaping the new council, Hon. Okiria Jessy Max was unanimously elected as the Town Council Speaker, with Christine Kaidu stepping in as his deputy.
The transition of power was marked by the symbolic handover of essential tools for governance, including office keys, a motorcycle, official stamps, and key legal documents like the Constitution and local government acts. These instruments were passed from the outgoing chairperson, Mr. Yusuf Zoomu, to Mr. Omalla.
In his farewell remarks, Mr. Zoomu explained his decision not to seek re-election, citing a desire to avoid a conflict of interest since his nephew already serves as the Member of Parliament for Pallisa County. He stressed the importance of unified family representation and expressed pride in his nephew’s political journey. Mr. Zoomu also humbly sought forgiveness for any shortcomings during his leadership and urged the incoming council to continue building on existing projects for the town’s progress.
Mr. Omalla has already begun the process of forming his executive committee, ready to lead Pallisa into its next chapter.
