Uganda’s Vice President, Jessica Alupo, joined thousands of mourners on Sunday to bid a final farewell to Hon. Juliet Rainer Kafire, the esteemed former Member of Parliament for Kibuku County. At her ancestral home in Bulangira Town Council, Kibuku District, the nation gathered to honor a leader who left an indelible mark.
On behalf of President Museveni, Vice President Alupo shared a powerful message of condolence, praising Ms. Kafire as a dedicated mother and a tireless advocate for progress in the Bukedi sub-region. President Museveni recognized her immense contributions, stating she achieved a great deal for the people of Kibuku District and the entire Bukedi region throughout her life.
Ms. Kafire diligently served two terms in Parliament from 1996 to 2006, representing Kibuku. Her visionary leadership also extended to playing a crucial role in shaping the nation’s 1995 Constitution as a Constituent Assembly delegate. Demonstrating profound sympathy, President Museveni not only sent his condolences but also personally contributed ten million shillings to the bereaved family to assist with the burial arrangements.
The Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oboth Oboth, also extended his deep sorrow through his representative, Ofwono Opondo. Mr. Opondo highlighted Ms. Kafire’s profound impact on Bukedi, particularly her dedication to constructing numerous essential schools and health facilities across various areas, which later became vital government services. In a further gesture of compassion, Parliament, too, presented a generous sum of ten million shillings to the family.
Minister Monica Musenero, present at the solemn occasion, expressed gratitude for the government’s consistent recognition of the Bukedi region. This gathering underscored the profound respect and admiration the nation held for Hon. Juliet Rainer Kafire, whose legacy of service and development will continue to inspire.
