The journey toward economic independence and professional excellence has officially begun for a group of ambitious young people from Dokolo District. In a powerful send-off ceremony held this Thursday, the Resident District Commissioner, Barbra Akech, commissioned eighteen motivated beneficiaries to the Lango Zonal Presidential Skilling Hub. This transformative initiative, located at Lira University, represents a vital bridge between unemployment and a future filled with specialized expertise and self-reliance.
During the event, Commissioner Akech delivered a stirring message centered on the power of character and dedication. She reminded the trainees that while the government provides the tools and the platform, their personal discipline will be the ultimate architect of their success. She urged the youth to remain steadfast in their studies, maintain high moral standards, and strictly follow the regulations of the training center. By staying focused and attending every session, these young Ugandans are not just learning a trade; they are securing a foundation for their entire lives.
The Commissioner also addressed a critical challenge, pleading with the students to see the course through to the end. She noted with concern that some individuals in the past have abandoned their training prematurely, a decision that wastes a precious public resource and prevents others from benefiting. This program is a rare gift from the government, offering free, high-quality instruction in essential fields like welding, fashion design, hairdressing, construction, and modern agriculture. It is an invitation for the youth to stop being job seekers and start becoming the creators of wealth and opportunity in their own communities.
Supporting this vision, Dokolo District LCV Chairperson Peter Ogwang expressed deep gratitude to the Office of the President for prioritizing the development of vulnerable youth. However, highlighting the massive demand for such life-altering education, Ogwang pointed out that the current number of slots does not fully meet the needs of the district. He made a passionate appeal to the central government to expand the annual intake to at least fifty students, ensuring that more young people can escape the cycle of poverty through technical mastery.
As these eighteen pioneers head to Lira City, they carry the hopes of their district on their shoulders. They are part of a massive national movement, with twenty regional hubs operating across Uganda from Masaka to Gulu. This initiative proves that with the right skills and a disciplined heart, the youth of Dokolo can become the backbone of a prosperous and industrialized nation. The message to the trainees was clear: return home not just with a certificate, but as skilled leaders ready to build a better Uganda.
