Thousands of mourners gathered into Teboke, Apac District, to honour the life of Lango Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii, whose burial on Saturday marked the end of a remarkable 99-year journey dedicated to unity, cultural pride, and community transformation.

Odur passed away on November 10, 2025, while receiving treatment at Lira University Hospital. He served as the elected Won Nyaci of the Lango Cultural Institution and became widely respected for defending education, preserving cultural identity, and championing peace in northern Uganda, especially during the difficult years of the LRA insurgency.

The funeral drew some of the country’s top leaders, including Vice President Jessica Alupo who represented President Yoweri Museveni, Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua, Members of Parliament, and cultural leaders from across the region. Thousands of Lango citizens also gathered to pay their final respects.

In his tribute, Obua praised Odur as a cultural pillar whose leadership shaped the moral direction of the Lango community. He said the late chief’s life was a strong reminder of the values of unity, culture, and public service.

Obua further reaffirmed government support for cultural institutions, pointing out that restoring these bodies was a deliberate effort to protect Uganda’s heritage and strengthen the identity of communities across the country.

Vice President Alupo delivered President Museveni’s condolence message, describing Odur as a unifying figure who consistently worked for harmony and development in Lango.

The ceremony concluded with emotional tributes and prayers for a leader remembered not only as a cultural head but also as a guide whose wisdom shaped generations.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
