In a crucial community gathering recently held in Otuke District, local government officials came together with hundreds of residents. This important meeting aimed to openly discuss the delivery of public services and strengthen how officials are held accountable to the people they serve.
During a lively discussion, residents didn’t hold back, detailing significant concerns. They highlighted the poor state of health and education services, terrible road conditions, and serious issues with major government initiatives like the Parish Development Model and the livestock restocking program. Beyond these, a deeper problem emerged: widespread allegations of officials demanding bribes, showing unfair favoritism, outright corruption, a lack of transparency, and weak accountability in delivering public services.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner Isaac Opio Akankwasa emphasized that these community meetings are vital. They provide a direct platform for citizens to voice their concerns and demand answers from their leaders. He assured the community that the Office of the President is fully committed to ensuring that every government program truly benefits its intended recipients. Opio confirmed that all concerns raised by residents have been carefully noted. He revealed that intelligence teams have already started investigating claims of extortion, favoritism, and misuse of public money, warning that anyone found obstructing government efforts will face legal consequences. He strongly encouraged residents to continue reporting corruption and abuse of power through official channels, stressing that public involvement is key to improving services.
Another Assistant RDC, Kirya Joel Jonathan, made a powerful appeal to all public servants. He urged them to always act with professionalism, honesty, and fairness in their roles, reminding them of their significant responsibility to the community.
