Oyam District has made a strong promise to significantly improve access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene services (WASH) for its children and communities. This crucial commitment aims to boost health outcomes and educational success throughout the district.
This important pledge was announced during the recent Day of the African Child celebration. The event focused on the vital theme of ensuring every African child has universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene. The day served as a powerful reminder to uphold children’s rights, bringing together district leaders, partners, and community members to discuss the urgent need for better access to clean water.
Experts and officials emphasized the profound importance of these services. Patrick Olugu, from New Vision’s Minakulu program, explained that clean water and good sanitation are fundamental for keeping children healthy, ensuring they attend school regularly, and helping them learn more effectively.
Speaking for the district administration, Emmanuel Clement Otim confirmed Oyam’s dedication to supporting WASH programs in both schools and communities. He assured that the local government would continue to collaborate with various partners to expand clean water access, calling it a basic requirement for achieving quality education and improving public health for everyone.
Further highlighting the educational impact, Sam Openy, a District Inspector of Schools, stressed that safe drinking water and proper sanitation directly influence how well children perform in school and their overall happiness. He urged all community members, organizations, and leaders to invest in long-lasting solutions for water, sanitation, and hygiene.
