During a high profile gathering in Aduku Town Council, located within Kwania District, these influential advocates urged women to organize into formal associations and dive headfirst into government sponsored wealth creation programs. The ultimate goal is clear: to lift families out of the grip of poverty and breathe new life into household incomes across the region.
Zena Opolot Opio, who serves as the visionary Chairperson of the Lango NRM Women League Association and the Lira City NRM Women League, emphasized that their organization is a fully registered and legitimate vehicle designed to mobilize the resources necessary for female economic empowerment. She highlighted that the association is already making a tangible difference, having provided direct support to members across Lira City, Lira District, Apac, and Kwania. Beyond immediate aid, the group has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign and is laying the groundwork for a cooperative bank. This bank is intended to serve as a financial backbone for registered district SACCOs, ensuring that capital is available for those ready to work.
According to Opio, the path to prosperity begins at the village level. She encouraged women to move beyond traditional roles and establish income generating businesses that scale from the local community up to the district level. She believes that when a woman is economically empowered, the entire household thrives, creating a ripple effect of stability and growth.
Supporting this vision, Emmanuel Opio Okello, representing the NRM leadership in Kwania, reaffirmed the partys unwavering commitment to helping grassroots women groups. He reminded those in attendance that unity is their greatest strength. By working together and backing leaders who are genuinely dedicated to socio economic progress, women can transform the region. He also pushed for more women to join the movement, advocate for their rights, and learn from successful business models in other areas to replicate that success at home.
The call to action was further bolstered by Nixson Adii, the Chairperson of the Kwania District NRM Entrepreneurs League. He pointed out that the government has already committed significant resources toward self reliance programs. He urged women to view these programs as a golden opportunity that must be managed responsibly to ensure long term improvements in their quality of life. Local leaders like Jimmy Ohuru and David Emer also praised the movement, noting that these local efforts perfectly align with the broader goals of the National Development Plan IV and Uganda Vision 2040.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the revelation by David Emer that leaders have already mobilized ten million shillings to kickstart wealth creation projects for members.
