The Palaotara Clan is beginning a new era with the recent installation of its leaders. Caxton Etii, the new Awitong (Clan Chief), has outlined a clear vision focused on uniting clan members across the Lango and neighboring Acholi regions.
Speaking at his swearing-in, Chief Etii promised his administration would strengthen clan bonds. A key priority will be educating members on proper land management to reduce the growing number of land conflicts. He urged everyone to use their land productively to improve family incomes and contribute to the clan’s overall development.
The peaceful handover of leadership was commended by representatives from the Lango Cultural Institution, who noted the smooth transition.
Morris Chris Ongom, the new Prime Minister of Palaotara Clan, shared further details about the administration’s ambitious plans. He called on all clan leaders to uphold their constitution and work tirelessly to help members escape poverty. The new team plans to create an annual development strategy, establish an investment framework, and actively raise funds for clan activities.
Ongom also delivered strong messages on personal responsibility. He encouraged members to avoid excessive drinking and instead embrace hard work. He firmly warned leaders against promoting the sale of customary land, which is crucial for the clan’s future. Additionally, he stated that parents who can afford to educate their children but fail to do so will face accountability under clan regulations, highlighting the central role of education.
Leaders also noted that ongoing efforts, like regular meetings, have already strengthened the clan’s focus on unity and education, even enforcing penalties for parents who neglect their children’s schooling. This commitment aims to secure a brighter and more prosperous future for all Palaotara members.
