A Bold Vision for a Stronger Nation as the Uganda People’s Congress Charts a Strategic Path to Victory by Solidifying Jimmy Akena’s Leadership for the 2031 Presidential Journey

In a decisive move to secure its political future and provide stable leadership for the nation, the Uganda People’s Congress has unveiled a strategic plan to modernize its governing rules. This initiative focuses on removing presidential term limits within the party, a change specifically designed to clear the road for Jimmy James Michael Akena Obote to lead the party into the 2031 general elections. This forward-looking strategy aims to ensure that the party remains a powerful and consistent force in Ugandan politics for years to come.

This landmark announcement was made by the party’s Secretary General, Fred Ebil Ebil, during a celebratory gathering in Dokolo District. Speaking to a passionate crowd at a thanksgiving event for Dokolo South Member of Parliament Vincent Opito, Ebil explained that the proposal emerged from a high-level virtual meeting of the National Council, which serves as the party’s primary decision-making body. The logic behind the change is simple but powerful: by ensuring leadership continuity, the party can build a more formidable and unified front, strengthening its position ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

While the proposal has generated significant excitement among the rank and file, Ebil clarified that the amendment will follow all necessary internal protocols. The suggestion will be reviewed and vetted by the relevant party organs to ensure it aligns with the collective will of the members before it is officially adopted into the constitution. This move signals a sophisticated, long-term approach to governance, positioning Akena as the undisputed face of the party’s mission to reclaim the presidency.

The event also served as a moment of triumph for Vincent Opito, who recently secured his seat for the 2026 term. Opito expressed profound gratitude to his constituents for their unwavering trust and promised to focus his next five years on delivering real results. His agenda includes a fierce advocacy for better infrastructure, boosting household incomes, and enhancing the quality of local services. Importantly, Opito took the opportunity to silence rumors regarding his political allegiance. He firmly dismissed social media claims suggesting he had defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement, labeling such stories as baseless and politically motivated attempts to cause confusion. He reaffirmed his total, lifelong commitment to the Uganda People’s Congress.

Adding to the spirit of regional progress, Patrick Ogwang Obura, the Chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group, called for radical unity among local leaders to pursue shared development goals. He emphasized the urgent need for the government to fulfill its long-standing promises, specifically the tarmacking of the Namasale–Dokolo–Alebtong road. This project is viewed as a vital economic engine that would lower transport costs for businesses and open up lucrative new markets for local farmers. Obura pledged that regional legislators would remain relentless in their lobbying efforts until the construction finally begins.

The gathering was a true display of political solidarity and strength, attended by a wide range of influential Members of Parliament, religious figures, and cultural leaders. Dignitaries from across the region, including representatives from Dokolo North, Kyoga North, Kwania South, and Oyam, joined hundreds of residents to witness this historic shift in the party’s direction. The atmosphere was one of renewed hope and determination as the party prepares to embark on a new chapter of leadership and national service.
