Empowering the Backbone of Our Economy: Kwania District Solidifies Landmark Partnership with Arova Cooperative to Transform Women-Led Enterprises and Drive National Prosperity

In a decisive move to champion economic independence and business excellence among women, the Kwania District Local Government has officially entered into a strategic alliance with Arova Produce Cooperative Society Limited. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the rollout of the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises initiative, better known as the GROW Project. By joining forces, these two entities are paving a clear path for female entrepreneurs to access the resources, training, and capital they need to thrive in today’s competitive market.

The formal signing ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, within the bustling atmosphere of the district council hall. The event served as more than just a legal formality; it was a powerful training ground for over 100 ambitious women entrepreneurs who gathered from across the district to witness the dawn of a new economic era.

The motivation behind this collaboration stems from a desire for maximum impact. Moses Opio, the GROW Project Focal Person for Kwania District, explained that while the district had been granted sh150 million to support women’s businesses during this financial year, there were initial hurdles in how to effectively utilize these funds. Following expert guidance from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, the district chose to partner with Arova, an organization with a proven track record of success and experience across the Lango sub-region.

Arova Produce Cooperative Society brings a wealth of expertise to the table. Daniel Ambrose Akodo, the head of credit operations at the cooperative, emphasized that their role goes far beyond simply distributing money. They are committed to building a foundation of financial literacy, offering specialized management training, and providing the credit services necessary for sustainable business expansion. By helping women open dedicated bank accounts, the cooperative is ensuring that these entrepreneurs can manage their capital with professionalism and precision.

The local leadership has embraced this partnership with open arms. Dorothy Awino, the Chairperson of the Kwania District Women Council, hailed the agreement as a vital step toward making affordable credit a reality for local women. She pointed out that when women are economically empowered, the entire nation moves closer to achieving the ambitious goals set out in the Fourth National Development Plan and the overarching Vision 2040.

Community leaders like Eunice Omara, who chairs the Kairomo Produce Cooperative Society, also expressed great optimism. She noted that this collaboration will provide women with the practical tools required to scale their operations and seize new economic opportunities that were previously out of reach.

Ultimately, the GROW Project stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to gender-inclusive growth. By bridging the gap between talent and capital, this initiative ensures that women-owned businesses are no longer just surviving, but leading the way in Uganda’s journey toward sustainable development and shared prosperity. Through this new partnership, Kwania District is not just investing in businesses; it is investing in the future of its families and the strength of its community.
