Oyam District Unveils Historic Shs 69.84 Billion Budget for 2026/2027, Paving the Way for Unprecedented Development and Improved Services

Oyam District has just approved its largest budget ever, a groundbreaking Shs 69.84 billion plan for the financial year 2026/2027. This significant increase from last year’s Shs 57 billion clearly shows Oyam’s growing ability to secure resources and meet the needs of its residents.

The budget was proudly presented by Chris Ongom, the Vice Chairperson and Leader of Government Business. He highlighted that this record-breaking allocation is a direct result of Oyam’s expanding revenue and a growing population, proving the district’s dedication to progress.

District Chairperson Benson Walter Dila Oyuku warmly welcomed the budget, emphasizing that it perfectly aligns with Oyam’s goals for development. He pointed to crucial projects like upgrading Anyeke Health Centre IV to a full hospital, which will drastically improve healthcare for thousands of people. This budget, he noted, is a clear sign of the district moving forward.

While Speaker Nomi Otyeno confirmed the budget’s approval after careful consideration by councillors, he also clarified that a significant portion—over 60 percent—will cover salaries for civil servants. However, he stressed the vital importance of effectively using the remaining funds to directly benefit service delivery and community projects.

The budget received unanimous support from all councillors, who expressed great hope that this financial plan will strengthen local infrastructure, expand essential social services, and ultimately improve the daily lives of everyone in the district. This approved budget is now the official blueprint for Oyam District’s work over the coming year.
