In a decisive move toward economic independence and regional growth, prominent leaders from the Lango sub region recently converged in Nakaseke District to chart a new course for their people. Led by the Paramount Chief, His Highness Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, the delegation presented a comprehensive five year development blueprint to General Salim Saleh, the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation. This strategic meeting, held at the Kirema Farm in Kapeeka, was focused on one primary goal: transforming the Lango region through modernized agriculture, industrial growth, and the creation of sustainable wealth for every household.
The engagement began with an inspiring tour of various industrial enterprises located at the Kirema Farm. The Lango leaders were able to witness the power of local manufacturing firsthand, visiting factories that produce everything from electronics and ceramics to footwear and household items. This excursion served as a practical demonstration of how industrialization can solve the unemployment crisis. Prime Minister Willy Okullo noted that seeing Lango youth already successfully employed in these Kapeeka based factories reinforced the belief that replicating this model back home is the key to securing the future of their own young workforce.
The core of the discussion centered on a detailed memorandum drafted earlier this year at the Lango Cultural Centre. This document outlines the urgent priorities of the region, including the massive expansion of wealth creation initiatives, the modernization of aging road networks, and the urgent upgrading of health facilities. Furthermore, the Lango leadership is advocating for increased educational opportunities through scholarships for students in every district and a more significant presence for Lango professionals within the central government. Paramount Chief Odongo Okune expressed great confidence that the government would honor these requests, highlighting the regionβs unwavering support for the national leadership as a foundation for this partnership.
General Salim Saleh welcomed the proposal with open arms, commending the Lango leaders for taking the initiative to define their own destiny rather than waiting for outside solutions. He committed to providing immediate support for tangible projects, such as the distribution of tractors to farmers and the restoration of the Lira Spinning Mill and the local starch factory. General Saleh also pledged to elevate the broader policy issues within the memorandum to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for inclusion in the National Development Plan.
This high level meeting also drew praise from the Deputy Attorney General, Jackson Karugaba Kafuuzi, who lauded the Lango community for their organized and proactive approach to development. By presenting a united front and a clear plan of action, the Lango leadership has set a powerful example for other regions to follow. This collaboration marks the beginning of a transformative era, promising to turn the Lango sub region into a hub of industry, education, and prosperity for generations to come.
