Reports spreading widely online, claiming that Dr. Chris Mukiza, who leads the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), tried to shoot Member of Parliament Moses Kamuntu at a hotel in Kololo, have been completely dismissed by official sources. Authorities state these claims are unproven and have no official support whatsoever.
These serious allegations, which started on the internet and quickly spread across social media, described a violent confrontation between the two individuals. However, security officials have clearly stated that no such event was ever reported to them. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed that police records show no report of any fight or shooting attempt in the entire Kampala area. He stressed that police can only begin an investigation if an official complaint has been filed.
The online rumors also included claims of misconduct and drunkenness, but these have not been checked or confirmed by any reliable authority. It is also important to note that Dr. Mukiza’s movements are always managed under strict security rules, including having dedicated drivers and professional protection arrangements. This context further casts doubt on the likelihood of the alleged incident.
So far, neither Dr. Mukiza nor MP Kamuntu has made any public statement addressing these circulating stories. Authorities are urging everyone to be very careful with information found online that has not been confirmed. They highlighted how important it is to rely on trusted sources before believing or sharing sensitive news.
