The Prime Minister of the Lango Cultural Institution, Professor Willy Okullo, recently expressed deep gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He praised the President’s ongoing commitment to fighting poverty and modernizing farming throughout Uganda.
These words were spoken during a significant event at the Lango Cultural Centre, where the region welcomed a large delivery of disease-resistant coffee seedlings from the Ministry of Agriculture. This initiative marks a crucial step to help families move beyond just growing enough to eat, towards growing crops for sale, thereby increasing their earnings.
Professor Okullo specifically highlighted the importance of extending agricultural support programs to the Lango area. He stressed that these programs are essential for improving family incomes and creating wealth for everyone in the community. He also recognized the strong leadership of the Lango cultural head, Won Nyaci, and the effective teamwork with the institution’s Minister for Agriculture, Michael Abeja. Their efforts were key in working with the Ministry of Agriculture to secure these valuable coffee seedlings.
Looking ahead, Professor Okullo urged everyone receiving the seedlings to care for them properly and use the best farming methods. He warned that if they are not well-maintained, it could jeopardize future government assistance. He assured that the cultural institution, alongside local coffee experts, will closely monitor the project’s progress to ensure its success. Supporting this message, local leader Rashid Eton also emphasized the need for careful handling, reminding people that neglecting the seedlings might prevent the government from offering similar help again. He importantly advised against turning this valuable opportunity into a political issue, emphasizing that it’s a unique chance for the region’s growth that must be protected.
