Young leaders across the Lango region are calling on organizers to give them a seat at the table during President Yoweri Museveni’s upcoming visit to Lira. As the President prepares to attend a major thanksgiving ceremony at Lango College, the youth are making it clear that they want a real opportunity to speak with the Head of State rather than being kept on the sidelines.
Daniel Moro, the chairperson of the Lira District Youth League, explained that young people have already organized themselves and are eager to welcome the President. However, their goal is to hand over a special report that outlines the major challenges facing young people in the region today. They want the President to hear about their struggles and needs directly from them.
Moro expressed deep concern because, in the past, youth representatives have often been blocked from meeting the President during his visits. He highlighted that this exclusion feels unfair, especially since young people were the driving force behind the President’s political success in the region during the most recent election. After working so hard to secure a victory, these youth leaders believe they have earned the right to be included in the conversation.
The group is now urging the event organizers to prioritize inclusivity and stop leaving out the very people who represent the future of the country. They believe that for the thanksgiving ceremony to be truly successful, the youth must have a voice.
Meanwhile, local police officials have confirmed that they have a strong security plan in place to keep the large crowds safe during the celebration this Saturday. While the public prepares for the festivities, the youth of Lango are waiting to see if their call for inclusion will finally be answered.
