A shocking act of violence recently occurred at the Amwoma Police Station in Dokolo District, where a mob took the law into their own hands and killed a young man in custody. The victim, 25-year-old Solomon Amenyo, had been arrested for allegedly stealing cattle. While he was being held at the station, an angry crowd gathered and quickly became uncontrollable.
The situation turned deadly when the group began throwing stones and demanding that the suspect be handed over to them. Despite the efforts of the police, who even fired warning shots to try and disperse the crowd, the mob overpowered the officers. The attackers used bricks, logs, and stones to beat Amenyo to death right at the scene. By the time police reinforcements arrived, the crowd had already fled into the surrounding areas.
Law enforcement has condemned this act of brutality and is currently hunting for the people responsible. Two individuals, identified as Alenga and Ocen, are already being pursued for their roles in the murder. The authorities are reminding everyone that mob justice is a serious crime that destroys the rule of law.
This tragedy serves as a dark reminder of why we must allow the legal system to work. When people act as judge, jury, and executioner, innocent lives can be lost and the safety of the entire community is put at risk. We must choose patience and justice over violence to ensure that our society remains peaceful and fair for everyone. If we continue to allow anger to drive our actions, we risk living in a world where no one is truly safe. Regardless of the crime, every person deserves their day in court so that true justice can be served.
