President Museveni’s Agricultural Vision Transforms Lango as Thousands of Coffee Seedlings Are Distributed to Help Families Escape Poverty and Build a Brighter Future

The Lango Cultural Institution Prime Minister, Prof. Willy Okullo, has expressed deep gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for his dedicated efforts to eliminate poverty through modern farming. Speaking at a special event at the Lango Cultural Centre, the Prime Minister praised the government for its commitment to changing the lives of local citizens by promoting commercial agriculture.

The highlights of the event was the arrival of 150,000 high-quality coffee seedlings. These specific plants are resistant to disease and are intended to help families move away from simple survival farming and toward profitable commercial business. Prof. Okullo noted that these agricultural programs are the key to creating lasting wealth and improving the daily lives of people throughout the Lango subregion.

This success was made possible through the strong leadership of Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune and his agricultural team, who worked closely with the national government to secure these resources. Leaders emphasized that this is a major turning point for Northern Uganda. For many years, the region relied on crops like maize and soybeans which often brought in low profits. By switching to coffee, farmers now have a chance to earn a significantly higher income.

However, the Prime Minister and other local leaders issued a clear call to action for everyone receiving the seedlings. They warned that the plants must be treated with great care and managed using the best farming techniques. If the project fails due to neglect, it could discourage the government from providing more support in the future. Leaders also urged the community to keep politics out of this initiative, reminding everyone that this is a rare economic opportunity that must be protected.

To ensure the project succeeds, experts have already begun training farmers on how to grow coffee effectively. Although the community requested even more seedlings than were delivered, the current supply will be distributed fairly among registered farmers. Local officials will also keep a close eye on the farms to make sure the plants are surviving and that the Lango region becomes a new powerhouse for coffee production.
