The Ministry of Energy has moved to calm rising public concern by confirming that no staff member at the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited has been dismissed, despite widespread media reports suggesting top managers had been pushed out.
According to the ministry, the circulating claims created unnecessary tension, especially allegations that the Prime Minister had stepped in to stop terminations. Officials clarified that these reports were misleading because no dismissals have occurred.
The Ministry explained that the UEDCL Board is currently completing a structured internal investigation that was launched after the Electricity Regulatory Authority highlighted concerns during its routine audit and performance review. The Board was instructed to examine the issues objectively, propose solutions, and submit a detailed report within a fixed period.
In a statement issued on December 5, the Ministry said the inquiry is now in its final phase and the findings will soon be presented for government action. It stressed that the public should ignore speculation and allow the official process to conclude.
The Ministry emphasised that no employee has been removed from duty as the investigation continues. However, it noted that any staff member found responsible for wrongdoing will face appropriate action under company policy and national laws.
Government officials reaffirmed their commitment to professional management within the electricity sector and assured the public that Cabinet will receive a full briefing once the final report is submitted.
The Ministry also highlighted its priority areas: strengthening accountability in electricity institutions, ensuring a reliable power supply, and safeguarding public trust in the governance of the national power network.
It concluded by assuring Ugandans that the countryβs power distribution system remains stable, safe, and efficiently managed, promising further updates once the internal inquiry is officially completed.
