The State Minister of Finance, Henry Musasizi, has applauded the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces for guiding the country through 40 years of peace, security, and national growth. He noted that Uganda’s stability today is a direct result of a disciplined and dependable army committed to protecting citizens and supporting development.
Speaking during the launch of the Tarehe Sita celebrations in Rubanda District, Musasizi reflected on the country’s difficult past, reminding the public of the fear and uncertainty that ruled the 1970s. He explained that roadblocks used to signal danger, but today they represent order and security.
He credited President Museveni for transforming the UPDF into a professional force that allows people to travel safely from one corner of the country to another without fear. Musasizi also praised the senior officers who witnessed the early liberation struggles, saying the spirit of unity and progress seen in today’s Tarehe Sita commemorations shows how far the country has come.
He encouraged Ugandans to value the peace they enjoy and to play a role in protecting the achievements of the past four decades.
Rubanda District Chairperson, Stephen Ampaire Kasyaba, also commended the army for maintaining calm along the borders and urged residents to avoid putting themselves in harm’s way. He highlighted UPDF’s community projects that continue to uplift local social and economic development.
UPDF Armoured Division Commander, Major General Deus Sande, reassured the public of the army’s dedication to safeguarding national stability. He pointed out ongoing community projects such as classroom blocks at Burolero and Hamurwa primary schools, the expansion of a maternity ward at Rubaare Health Centre III, and the construction of modern sanitation facilities.
He said these initiatives reflect the army’s commitment not only to security but also to improving the welfare of communities across the country.
