A New Wave of Civic Engagement in UgandaThe recent engagement of Uganda Christian University (UCU) students with the Sauti ya Vijana initiative has ignited a new wave of intellectual discourse and civic engagement among the youth. The UCU Students Exchange event served as a powerful platform for critical thinking, where the achievements and failures of the current regime were put under the microscope.
Under the wise guidance of Mzee, the discussion transformed into a masterclass in constructive debate. Students participated actively, fearlessly expressing their thoughts on the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) plans for the upcoming 2026 elections. This vibrant exchange of ideas exemplifies what happens when young people are given the space to speak truth to power.
Empowering the YouthThe Sauti ya Vijana campaign, which aims to reach every institution and first-time voter with the NRM message, resonates deeply with the aspirations of Uganda’s youth. As highlighted in the launch statement, the initiative seeks to engage young voters where they are—on campuses, in classrooms, and across social media—rather than waiting for them to come to traditional political rallies.
This proactive approach is crucial, especially considering that the largest share of new and first-time voters is found within academic institutions.
