Senior officials of the National Resistance Movement in Dokolo District have launched a strong show of unity, declaring unwavering support for all party flagbearers as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections.
During a mobilisation meeting held on Thursday in Adok Subcounty, several key party leaders emphasised that their shared priority is to strengthen the NRM’s presence and improve coordination between local leaders and the central government.
Okori David, the NRM Subcounty Chairperson for Adok, told residents that he is fully committed to securing overwhelming support for every NRM candidate in the area. He encouraged the community to reject misleading information and instead work together to uphold the party’s image.
He highlighted that Joseph Jones Ogwal, the NRM candidate for Dokolo North Constituency, has a clear and realistic development plan that aligns with the needs of the people.
Adok Subcounty LCIII Chairperson, Ogwali Rubby, praised the current line-up of NRM candidates, saying the party had presented individuals who are credible, committed, and capable of delivering meaningful change. He noted that Ogwal has shown dedication for many years, having begun preparing for leadership as early as 2016.
Rubby also pointed out that Ogwal has been actively involved in youth development, particularly through sports and community initiatives. He cited Ogwal’s contribution of a mowing machine used to clear bushes around schools, a gesture that has greatly benefited the people of Adok.
Dokolo District NRM Chairperson, Geoffrey Opio Ekong, explained that his team is focused on mobilising support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and other NRM candidates including Ogwal, Janet Adongo Elau, and James Otto Apili. He said they are engaging residents with leaders who understand community problems and can offer realistic solutions.
Ekong stressed that Dokolo needs leaders who can maintain a good working relationship with the president, arguing that this is the only way to attract serious development projects. He noted that many residents, especially the elderly, people living with disabilities, and unemployed youth, depend on government support and require leaders who can champion their interests.
NRM Woman MP flagbearer, Janet Rose Adongo Elau, said she joined the race to ensure that the voice of Dokolo reaches the president more effectively. She reminded residents that President Museveni personally handed her the NRM flag in broad daylight, a gesture she said strengthened her resolve to serve the people.
Elau added that electing only NRM leaders would allow smooth coordination with the district chairperson and area Member of Parliament, ensuring faster implementation of development programmes.
Dokolo North MP flagbearer, Joseph Jones Ogwal, told the gathering that he will focus on voicing the real concerns of the people once he reaches Parliament. He said development projects would be easier to achieve since the entire leadership team belongs to the same party and can work in harmony.
Ogwal announced that construction of the long-awaited Adok Seed Secondary School is already set to begin, with the contractor approved and the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for December. He also revealed plans to establish a skills centre for youth and adults, and confirmed that sewing machines have already been procured to help young girls train in tailoring.
He further pledged to sponsor five students to study medicine and thirty others to train as nurses. Ogwal said he will work closely with women’s groups to improve their financial stability and called for affirmative action to grant university admission points to students from Lango, saying the region continues to feel the impact of past insurgencies.
He also promised to advocate for better access to clean water, electricity, and legislation that empowers cultural leaders to manage customary land. Ogwal said the NRM manifesto contains strong commitments in areas such as wealth creation, education, and infrastructure, and his responsibility is to turn those promises into real progress on the ground.
Dokolo District LCV Chairperson, James Otto Apili, who is seeking re-election on the NRM ticket, said he has prioritised road rehabilitation across Adok and the wider district to help farmers easily reach markets. He added that he is lobbying for the upgrading of Amulakere Health Centre and has proposed dividing Adok Subcounty into two administrative units to improve service delivery.
Apili vowed to continue championing women’s economic empowerment so that every household can benefit from government programmes.
The gathering in Adok Subcounty has been viewed as a major display of solidarity among NRM leaders in Dokolo District. Many participants expressed confidence that the party will secure overwhelming victory for President Museveni and all its candidates in the 2026 general elections.
