President Yoweri Museveni has officially sworn in three key officials to lead Uganda’s justice and accountability institutions, marking a significant step in the government’s renewed effort to strengthen integrity and transparency across public service.
The swearing-in ceremony, held in Mbale during the president’s campaign trail in the Bugisu sub-region, saw Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala take oath as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), Justice Jane Frances Abodo assume the position of Principal Judge, and Lino Anguzu become the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Deputy Inspectors General of Government, Dr. Okiria and Anne Twino, who were both reappointed to their positions, attended the event.
President Museveni praised Justice Naluzze for her outstanding service in the judiciary and expressed confidence that her experience would enhance the Inspectorate’s ability to tackle corruption and ensure greater accountability in government institutions.
Justice Naluzze, formerly a High Court judge and an experienced legal mind, promised to dedicate herself to the fight against corruption and the promotion of good governance. She emphasized her commitment to building a strong and transparent Inspectorate that serves all Ugandans fairly.
“I will work tirelessly to ensure that the Inspectorate of Government becomes more effective in fighting corruption and promoting good governance across all sectors,” Justice Naluzze pledged after taking the oath.
Justice Abodo, who previously served as Director of Public Prosecutions, now transitions to the office of Principal Judge, while Mr. Anguzu takes over her former position as DPP.
Opposition Leader Joel Ssenyonyi welcomed Justice Naluzze’s appointment, describing her as a competent and principled leader who has the potential to bring new energy and direction to the country’s anti-corruption efforts.
The new appointments are seen as part of the government’s broader plan to reinforce Uganda’s justice system and ensure that the fight against corruption, abuse of office, and mismanagement of public resources remains at the center of national priorities.
With these changes, President Museveni signaled a clear message that Uganda’s accountability and justice institutions must continue to operate independently and effectively for the good of the nation.
