President Yoweri Museveni has extended his warm congratulations to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following her re-election and swearing-in for a second term in office.
In his message, Museveni said President Samia’s victory is a reflection of the Tanzanian people’s trust in her leadership and vision for their nation. He emphasized that Uganda and Tanzania share a long history of brotherhood and cooperation, which continues to grow stronger through mutual respect and shared goals.
Represented at the ceremony in Dodoma by Vice President Jessica Alupo, President Museveni reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Tanzania in areas such as trade, infrastructure development, and regional integration.
“This victory shows the confidence that Tanzanians have in her leadership. I look forward to working closely with President Samia to strengthen our partnership and promote peace, unity, and prosperity for the people of our two nations,” Museveni said.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan was officially sworn in at a ceremony broadcast live from Dodoma, though public attendance was restricted. She secured her re-election with 97.66% of the votes in a hotly contested election that drew both celebration and criticism.
Tanzania’s election law does not allow any court challenge to presidential election results once declared by the National Electoral Commission, a policy that has attracted concern from legal experts and human rights observers.
Despite this, regional leaders from across East Africa, including Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Burundi’s President Evariste Ndayishimiye, and Kenya’s Vice President Kithure Kindiki, attended the event to show their support.
As President Samia begins her new term, the focus now shifts to strengthening regional ties and fostering unity across East Africa—an agenda both Uganda and Tanzania have pledged to champion together for the development of their people and the region as a whole.
