Police in the North Kyoga Region have detained three men for allegedly trying to bribe a Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) scout in an effort to influence the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The suspects, identified as Odongo George, Ekut Simon (32), and Awoko Lavoiser (26), reportedly offered 1 million shillings in 50,000-shilling notes to Ayoo Christine, a UNEB scout stationed in Oyam District. Authorities say the bribe was meant to compromise the integrity of the national exams, which officially began on October 31, 2025.
Following a tip-off, police tracked and arrested the trio at Garden Hotel in Lira City. The money was recovered and kept as evidence. The case has been filed at Lira City Central Division Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.
According to SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, the suspects will face court once inquiries are complete. He warned the public against engaging in any form of examination malpractice, saying the police and UNEB are fully committed to protecting the credibility of national exams.
Okema emphasized that the law will deal firmly with anyone attempting to interfere with the fairness of the education system.
The Uganda Police Force reaffirmed its determination to uphold integrity and ensure justice without fear or favor.
