Mogo Uganda Reaches 100,000 Smartphone Loans in Just 200 Days, Transforming Digital Access Nationwide

Mogo Uganda, a branch of the Eleving Group, has achieved a major milestone by providing over 100,000 smartphone loans in only 200 days since launching the service in April 2025. This rapid growth shows Mogo’s strong commitment to expanding digital access and promoting financial inclusion across Uganda.

According to Tomas Sudnius, Regional CEO for Eleving Group in Asia and Africa, Uganda’s large youth population presents huge potential for digital transformation. He noted that giving more Ugandans access to smartphones means giving them access to education, technology, and global opportunities that can uplift communities and accelerate the nation’s development.

Mogo’s smartphone loan program allows Ugandans to own a phone with an initial deposit starting from as low as 80,000 shillings and flexible payment options—daily, weekly, or monthly, beginning from just 848 shillings per day. To qualify, one only needs a national ID and an Airtel SIM card registered in their name.

The growth of this initiative has been extraordinary. From just 284 smartphones in April, the number surged to more than 30,000 by September—a rise of over 10,000% in five months. Monthly growth figures remained high, reflecting the increasing public demand for affordable devices and Mogo’s growing footprint nationwide.

Mogo Uganda CEO, Mikhail Vydryn, described this success as proof of how affordable financing and reliable technology can create real social and economic change. “Reaching 100,000 smartphones in such a short time shows the power of inclusion and progress when financial access meets opportunity,” he said.

The company’s success is supported by strong partnerships. Transsion Holdings, the parent company of Tecno, Infinix, and itel, provides the phones, while Airtel Uganda offers new customers 3GB of free data every month for three months.

Mogo Uganda now operates in all districts of the country, helping thousands of Ugandans gain access to online education, digital business tools, and modern communication. Each smartphone financed represents a step forward in bridging Uganda’s digital divide and empowering citizens for a more connected future.
