The Uganda Police Force has announced plans to recruit 100,000 temporary officers to help maintain peace and security during the upcoming 2026 general elections.
According to the statement from the police, the recruits, known as Special Police Constables (SPCs), will serve on a three-month contract and earn a monthly salary of Shs469,000. Each officer will be deployed within their home district to support regular police operations during the election period.
The recruitment exercise, which is already underway, will close on November 1, 2025. Successful applicants will undergo one month of basic security training before being assigned duties.
To qualify, applicants must be Ugandan citizens aged 18 years and above, possess a national ID, and have at least a Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) certificate. Women are encouraged to apply.
Applicants are required to submit handwritten applications addressed to the Inspector General of Police, along with photocopies of their academic documents, national ID, recent passport-size photographs, and recommendation letters from their LCI, LCIII, and GISO officials.
Police have warned that anyone caught using forged documents or impersonating others will face arrest and prosecution.
The program of recruiting election constables has become a key part of Uganda’s election security strategy. These officers help control crowds, protect polling materials, and maintain peace in areas considered high-risk during elections.
In past elections, some of the best-performing temporary constables were later absorbed into the regular police force, giving many citizens a chance to start a long-term career in law enforcement.
A senior police officer noted that this recruitment aims to strengthen community policing and ensure that the 2026 elections are peaceful, fair, and secure across the country.
